Why Pediatric Dentistry?

Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Dental HealthThe primary reason for the specialty of Pediatric Dentistry is that infants, children, and young adults have special physical and psychological needs. Their developing bodies need a focus on preventative care even more so than with adults. Problems identified and treated in childhood and adolescence can effect a lifetime of either good or poor dental health.

A child's first visit to a dentist, especially, should be as positive an experience as possible, and, at Children's Dental Health Associates, P.C. that begins as each new patient walks through the door! Colorful pictures, children's play area, TV's throughout the offices, video games, but most of all a child friendly and caring staff that begins an engagement right at the front office reception area.

The American Dental Association (ADA) says:
"Pediatric Dentistry is an age-defined specialty that provides primary and comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs."

Preventive Dental Care for Infants,
Children and Young Adults

According to the American Journal of Pediatric Dentistry “Many oral health problems can be prevented if parents take good care of their infant's or child's gums and teeth, optimize systemic and topical fluoride exposure, and eliminate prolonged exposure to simple carbohydrates”.

Pediatric Dentistry at Children's Dental HealthDental Sealants are an excellent way to prevent tooth decay especially to the vulnerable surfaces of molars. With the proper use of Fluoride together with Dental Sealants more than 90% of children's tooth decay problems can be prevented!

At Children's Dental Health Associates, P.C. we take preventive dental care as a serious responsibility. Our entire staff is able to provide many age appropriate resources for our patients and their parents to prevent oral health problems.

Early detection of structural problems of teeth and gums can make correction far easier and less costly. If specialized treatment is called for, we will make appropriate referrals.

It is highly recommended to get your children in to see us as early as possible but certainly before any serious problems develop. A small cavity (carie) that is easily taken care of can also better insure a very positive first visit.
