Primary (baby) teeth are small so when serious decay is treated, as in a Pulpotomy or a complete Pulpectomy, i.e removal of some or all of the pulp area, there is often not enough tooth structure left to support the future dependable functioning of the tooth. This can also be true of serious decay that affects two or more different surfaces of the tooth.
To protect the weakened tooth from cracking or otherwise breaking, a stainless steel dental crown is used. These stainless steel dental crowns are usually prefabricated, then fitted and trimmed by the dentist right here in our office.
